Orlando Police Arrest Suspect In Officer's Death, Ending Monthlong Manhunt

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi says President-elect Donald Trump has reached out to the husband of a slain Orlando police officer.

Loyd has been the focus of a weeklong manhunt since Lt. Debra Clayton was killed in a Wal-Mart parking lot.

Bondi describes the conversation between Trump and Seth Clayton as "a brief, very touching, private conversation between two husbands".

He declared that numerous accusations against him are "made up" and complained that he was roughed up by police after the caught up with him Tuesday night.

Before the officer's shooting, authorities had been looking for Loyd for questioning in the death of his pregnant ex-girlfriend, Sade Dixon.

He made his first court appearance Thursday morning to face charges filed in connection with the death of his ex-girlfriend. They just did that s-- and they're trying to hide it from the news people.

Orlando police released video Thursday of the arrest of Markeith Loyd, a fugitive who had been sought in the December 13 death of his pregnant ex-girlfriend and the January 9 slaying of an Orlando police officer who tried to apprehend him.

She described him as "a sign of hope " for European anti-establishment politicians in a press conference earlier this month. According to aides for the U.S. president-elect, Trump did not have plans to meet with Le Pen, Bloomberg reported.

The judge also ordered Loyd to have no contact with any of the victims, witnesses, or victims' family members through any communication, phone, or third party.

At the press conference, Mina called Loyd a "violent, unsafe and unpredictable" person and said officers showed "incredible restraint" during the arrest. Authorities say Loyd initially tried to escape out the back but then ran back inside the house and ultimately surrendered in the front yard. He was hospitalized overnight.

Police said they found Loyd Tuesday night in an abandoned west Orlando home - wearing body armor and armed with two guns.

During his tirade, Loyd reasserted claims that he was beaten by police when he was taken into custody.

Police arrested a former supervisor at the fried chicken restaurant where Loyd worked, an ex-girlfriend and a niece last Tuesday and Wednesday on charges of helping him in the weeks after Loyd's ex-girlfriend was fatally shot.

Mina also confirmed that the officers who arrested Loyd on Tuesday face an excessive force investigation, but he believes they acted appropriately.
